No Sunday Service This Week

Just in case anyone missed the emails and reminders, we are having service on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM and a church barbecue afterwards. Since Sunday is the 4th and so many want to participate in the Independence Day festivities, we want to encourage everyone to do just that!

Come Saturday morning, receive from God's holy presence, have fun with us at a massive church picnic then on Sunday go and be a light to our community. It'll be great!

As I said, I want to make sure everyone had a chance to see this and know exactly what was going on!

Supporting Pastor Jason

Good morning everyone!

Some may remember a few weeks ago when I told you in service that I feel like it's getting time to being in full-time ministry again. I believe this will be amazing for the church and what I know God has called us to do. For this reason, I've been trying to  take steps to do exactly this.

I don't usually talk about my blog here, but I do write short devotional articles and insights nearly every day. This is part of how I see an avenue of support developing and I would love for you to be a part of this. Here is Thursday's entry: Stories to Be Written where I talk about living the adventure of faith and some ways you can help me in these steps.

Thank you all for your love, prayer, and support. Many great things are happening and many challenges are also present, but Jesus has overcome it all. Thanks for you help and reading this short note. Please go check out the link above as well.

Pastor Jason

Church Move

Good morning Breakthrough Church! As you all know, our lease has expired at the current location. We know that God has much in store for us and we want to be prepared in every way including financially for our next step. Instead of continuing to pay the large lease payments each month, we will be moving to our new building by the end of this month, February. Our new church home is located on the property adjacent to Pastor Jason & Andrea's new home.

To prepare for this big move we need your help with the following:

  1. We need someone to volunteer to take on the upright piano and big TV currently stored at the church. If you can get it on Craig's list, the Freebies, etc. We would like to be paid for them, but at this point, we need them out. This process can start right away.
  2. We will need help packing up and moving things out & into the new building.
  3. After everything is moved out, we will need much help cleaning the current space to ensure our security deposit.
  4. Work nights at the church will be planned soon. Please be ready to help out as much as you can.

The list may get longer as we approach our move date. As you can see much is on the horizon. As part of the church family, we need you to help get this accomplished. It will take all of us. Thank you for your prayers as we move further into the will and heart of God for Breakthrough Church.

New Year, Renewed Focus

Hello everyone!

I've been writing several things on the news blog lately, and I'm thinking about making it a weekly address to bring things to your attention and bring some targeted encouragement to our church. Nothing too long, just some specific things I'm sensing or need to release to our local congregation as they come up.

The reason I'm writing this one is to have you go and listen to Sunday's message. It's a declaration of what I have been hearing and feeling for 2010.  If you were there, maybe you would like to listen again.  I believe this is so important to hear because the Father wants us all on the same page.  Click here to listen to that message.

You may be able to tell I hadn't preached in a couple weeks. I was pretty intense right out of the gate! I launch out and then everything sort of just keeps spilling out, but I really want you to listen to what the Spirit of God is saying to us.

Also one of the things I mentioned Sunday and want to challenge you again is to find some way to be in the Scriptures every day.  If you're highly organized you may be able to do this without the help of a reading plan, but for the rest of us, there's nothing wrong with a little help!

One great resource is youversion.com.  This is not only a way to search the Bible, but join a community and sign for all sorts of reading plans.  There's also a wonderful site called biblegateway.com that has lots of options.

Ask God what you need to do.  You don't necessarily need to read the entire Bible through, but we each need a new level of God's word (in understanding and revelation) and that takes some discipline.

Please: let's do this as a church. First go listen to Sunday's message then find a Bible reading plan that will work for you.  2010 will be a year of doing the impossible and I'm excited that we are doing it together.

Merry Christmas and Be Expecting!

Hello everyone,

This is Pastor Jason. We're headed out on our vacation very soon, but on behalf of Andrea, myself, and our family, I wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas. You are a blessing in the most profound ways to us and we are humbled to be a part of such a beautiful, diverse expression of the Christ's Church.

Enjoy your families and friends this holiday season and also take the necessary moments to recognize His presence in our lives.  Thank Him for His blessings and worship Him.  In everything, be expecting more!

Please remember to come ready to receive these next two weeks as Pastor Danny Fisher from Seminole, OK brings the message.  This is not an accident he's here, but I truly believe it's a divine appointment.  He will bring a timely word that will prepare us for the next season.

If you are in town, do not miss it! Also don't forget to invite as many people as you can to experience what God wants to do.

Prepare your hearts in advance.  Be praying for one another as God puts someone on your heart and mind. Come ready to worship as Sherry leads you in praise to God then trust Him that He has a great word to speak into your life.  It's a new season, a new day, and we have to have a new expectation.

May God's blessings rest upon you and thank you for your love and prayers as we travel. Merry Christmas and as always, we'll be praying for you and your families as well!

All our love,

Jason and Andrea Stasyszen

New Look of Emails & Updates

Hello everyone!

This is Jason, and I just wanted to let you know that from here on out, the emails you receive from Breakthrough Church will look a little different but should be a whole lot more effective. Instead of a blog and emails, there will be a wonderful consolodation of the information into one source which means no multiple emails with the same stuff and less work for Sherry.

The blog will still be there and will still carry the most up-to-date information, but every time there is something new as far as events or notices, it will go out the following morning.

So you know...

Here are some things to remember about updates and emails that Sherry and I have been talking about.

  • Prayer requests & other time sensitive requests will go out as soon as humanly possible. These are the only things that may come in a separate email depending on the nature of the prayer request. If it's not time-sensitive, it will go to the blog or in the weekly announcements.
  • If you have events, notices, or requests you submit, they may be edited to make them as concise as possible or if errors are found.
  • Everyone is encouraged to submit announcements for the weekly or for the blog. This could include community events, something your family is involved with, something that would be great fun or education, etc. Anything you want to share is just fine!
  • If you want something included in the weekly, please be sure to submit it by Wednesday evening.
Take a look at the new layout and see everything is there handy for you. A link back to the blog so you can leave a comment, link to Connecting to Impact blog and our church messages, a place for you to update your info, or forward an announcement to a friend--it should all be a little easier to find and cut down on the extra work (win-win!).

Blessings to you all and thank you for being such an amazing church family and a part of this community that is seeking to make a difference. God is at work and He will not be stopped. There is more!

Multiplied blessings,

Pastor Jason

Breakthrough Happenings

Congratulations to Nate, Sarah, Aaron & Allison at the arrival of little Amelia on Tuesday, Aug 18th. Mom & baby are doing well and were released from the hospital on yesterday. A sign up schedule for meals for the family will be started soon. We thank God for this miracle of a new life and for a safe delivery.

Prayer & Worship tonite and every Thursday night at the church at 6:30pm

Small Groups are gearing up to begin soon. A schedule of groups and meeting times will be announced. Our first round of meetings was blessed and we’ve heard many testimonies of how lives were touched. These groups are designed as an outreach to our families, friends & acquaintances or maybe even the person standing in line with us at Freddy’s. Start praying now as to how you will get involved and who you can invite and bring with you! He’s the God of this city and there is so much to be done. Let’s get involved!

Ministry Need - Breakthrough Church is in need of some dedicated committed adults to help out in nursery. You would be responsible for one Sunday a month, usually the same Sunday each month so that it would be easier to remember your time to minister to the children. You would be asked to prepare a lesson, songs, games and snack for the children ages newborn to three years. Some Sundays we may have five or six children and other Sundays, only one but they all need ministry. After church you would be asked to vacuum and pick up the nursery so it would be clean and ready for the next Sunday. Nursery is a vital ministry as parents need to trust the workers to care for their child so they can relax and allow God to minister to them in the service. Currently, we only have five regulars to do nursery so the children grow to know you and trust you and want to join in the fun you plan for them on your Sunday. Children are already gifted and assigned by God to be our next leaders, pastors, teachers, nurses, mayors and the like. You get to touch their lives in the early forming stages. If interested in joining our team to minister to the Tiny Tots, please Email Jenny at grammyjenny[at]gmail.com or call and leave a message at 780-2558 so she can include you on the schedule for September. Thank you for considering this often overlooked ministry of the church.
Pre-service Prayer – every Sunday morning 10am – join us as we ask God’s blessings & anointed upon the service that chains be broken, breakthrough comes and lives are changed forever.

Carolyn wishes to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone for the cards, flowers, prayers and kind words in the loss of her Mother a few weeks ago.

Susan has requested effective immediately, that her home email address be used when sending her personal email at innkeeper[at]beachsidevilla.com. Susan can no longer receive personal emails to her work email. Please delete the lynden address from your address book.

Back to School Fair – Sponsored by Tlingit & Haida of the city of Juneau and the Central Council T & H Indian Tribes of Ak. Backpacks filled with basic school supplies will be distributed on a first come first served basis to all tribally enrolled school aged children K – 12 on this Saturday, August 22 noon to 2pm at 3235 Hospital Dr (T&H Bingo Hall by the hospital). Parents or guardians must have a completed application submitted to THICBC or your case worker by Friday, August 21. You must attend the fair in order to receive a backpack. Hotdogs & juice will be served. A contact number was not included in this announcement, but it was submitted by Trish.

God’s richest blessings to you! There’s more! See you soon.

Thank You, Church

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has prayed and helped make this camp possible for our youth. Shelly and I counted yesterday and we have enough for everyone to go!

Through fundraising, sponsorships, and your faithful prayer, I believe there will be a tremendous return on our investment as God touches and transforms lives in this coming weekend. This is not to say we should let up! Keep praying and declaring the Now season into Juneau and Sitka and the youth of this generation. We are trusting that this will be a moment of destiny as God’s fire and passion meets us in Sitka.

Thanks also to our youth leaders: Bethany, Kaleigh, and Jesse. I appreciate your hearts and willingness to run with what I felt God is saying and help make this camp happen.

I was telling Andrea last night that I so appreciate our church. There is an amazing sense of God’s love and we are a welcoming, accepting place for people to experience God and His truth. We may not be the biggest or most financed. We may not do everything perfectly, but we are making an impact, each one of us and all together. How we’ve rallied to make sure everyone can go to this camp is just evidence again of your hearts to serve as well as God’s wisdom in giving us community.

Before this gets too long, I just wanted to say thank you. It is a privilege to serve and seek God with you. The coming months and years will be the most powerful of our lives as we continue to surrender to Him. Multiplied blessings to you!

Video Testimony Project

We need your help for a video testimony project! For those there last Sunday, this is a reminder for those who weren't there, this is your notice to be a part!

When: 1 PM, Saturday at the church
What: we'll be recording very short testimonies (1 to 2 minutes) to use in an upcoming service and online at our website (www.breakthroughalaska.com).
Why you should come: this will help to further reach out to our community as a practical and meaningful glimpse into who God is in your life.

  • Don't get stressed out about the testimony thing. Think of it like an interview. We'll ask you a question and you answer.
  • Do be thinking and reflecting on why you follow Jesus, why you think church is important, what He has done in your life.
  • Don't say this is for someone else who is bolder, more spiritual, smarter, etc. This is your church and we are everyday people making an extraordinary impact!

Thank you in advance for being a part as you share your heart and love Jesus. I really believe this will be an amazing, tremendous way to reach out with a message of hope and truth!

Questions or comments? Use the comment box on our news updates or send me an email.

Thanks again and multiplied blessings to you!

Two quick prayer needs

This message came from Jenny Geary-

  • Clif Conrad is going to have to drink some liquid and have X rays taken. He has had nothing by mouth since he had surgery last Monday - a week ago. The doctor thinks he has a blockage in his small intestine and hopes the liquid will open it - otherwise he is headed to surgery AGAIN! Thank you for praying and if you can visit them, they would greatly appreciate it.
  • Jayme Geary has been not feeling well for some time - Dr. Neyhart sent her to the hospital for blood work and an ultra sound - they are there now.

Thank you for praying for these critical needs right now.

Prayer Request for Clif and Debbi

You may have received the email, but just in case you didn't:

Clif & Debbi, our friends & still faithful supporters to the ministry, who moved away a couple years, are in Juneau for a visit. On their way here Clif began feeling intense pain & was taken to ER upon arriving to Juneau earlier this morning. The diagnosis is that his appendix burst and at this very moment he is in surgery.

We ask your prayers for Clif, that the surgery is successful --- if they can perform the surgery laproscopically, he can get out tomorrow. If they go in, he’ll be in the hospital 3-4 days. That would drastically affect their trip. Prayers for Debbi as she takes care of Clif in his recovery stage. We speak God’s blessings, peace and healing to them both! Debbi’s number is 479-841-5841 if you’d like to give her call and offer help of any kind. I know she would be so appreciative.

Thank you so much for praying.

Congratulations to Jomar Dunham!

I heard through the grapevine (aka Sherry!) that something great happened to Jomar this past week and there was an article in the paper about him. He was named West Coast area Enlisted Person of Year! Check out the whole article in the Juneau Empire here.

That is wonderful and we want to congratulate Jomar on such a huge achievement. It also reinforces our sadness that their family is leaving us soon, but we love you guys and celebrate with you, Jomar, because we know you deserve it.

I just thought this was some good news worth passing on!

If you want, you can send some congrats in the comments or email them (if you have that- I don't want to post it here). Congrats again!
