Great Ministry Opportunity

I received this email from an organization who need some space for exchange students coming to Juneau. If you are interested or know someone who can help, respond or pass on the information.

Pray about it. Think about it. This would be an amazing opportunity! Here's all the information I received...

Dear Church,

My name is Taralee Ellis; I am working for a nonprofit foundation that administers two federally funded scholarships.  We bring high school teens from the former Soviet Union (FLEX program) and countries with significant Muslim populations (YES program) to Juneau for a school year.

I am contacting you today to find out if there is any way your church might help me find homes for these students. First off I ask that you join me in prayer that God will find homes for these students, secondly to spread the word in your congregation about this rewarding opportunity and thirdly to spread the word in the Juneau area about three fantastic exchange students that are coming to Juneau for the upcoming academic year. All have great English skills and have a variety of interests – from music to theater, and student government to volleyball.  You can find out a little more about each student through their student profile link (click, or copy and paste in your web browser to view):

YES068           Aliffia  INDONESIA  F

YES097           Pahmie            PHILIPPINES M

FSA129           Yekaterina       RUSSIA           F

At the PAX program, we bring high school teens on both the FLEX and YES programs to Alaska for a school year, but we are currently even seeking host families that could possibly welcome the student for 8 weeks to start the school year. We need host families to provide a warm and loving home environment, a bed, and three meals a day.  It is a one of a kind experience, and an opportunity to make a positive difference in a young person’s life.

I was wondering if you can please pass my posting below to your members to alert them of this unique educational opportunity and see if anybody might be interested. I would also be happy to come speak to your church or youth group about this program at any time.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested or happen to know someone who is able to help out.  We need to find a home for these three students within the next two weeks to make their American dreams come true.

Thank you in advance for your help to make the world smaller and reaching out to share God's love.  My contact information is listed below please contact me if you have any questions, or would like to set up a time to speak with me in person and to learn more.

Warmly,

Taralee Ellis

Good morning Breakthrough family. Hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th weekend. Here are a few announcements to start the week off:

  • Tim and Meghan are in Anchorage today, July 6 - 8 to attend the funeral of Tim's grandmother who recently passed away. Thank you for your continued prayers for the Nelson family.
  • In preparation for the wedding of Jesse and Suzie, Andrew and Shelly are expecting 11 out of town guests. Suzie's family of 9 arrived Monday night from Belgium. Two more guests from Oklahoma arrives in a few days. They are in need of one more twin size bed. If you have a bed you can loan or if you can help them out in any way, such as dropping off a bag of groceries, please give Andrew or Shelly a call at 789-1076, 957-1356 or 957-1357.
  • Thursday night, July 8 there will be a birthday party at the church for Nathan. Nathan is here visiting with us from Oklahoma & most of us have gotten a chance to meet him over the past couple weeks. He is away from his family for his special day and we want to let him know that he is loved. So, please come out at 6:30pm Thursday night. Contact Jeannita at jeannita.stasyszen@alaska.gov for more details or questions.
  • Pastor Daymond is scheduled for gall bladder surgery on this Thursday July 8 at Elmendorf AFB hospital in Anchorage. Please keep him in prayer that his heart would be strong, for wisdom for the doctors and peace for him & Jenny. We will keep you updated as we know something.

Enjoy your short work week and be a light to someone this week!

No Sunday Service This Week

Just in case anyone missed the emails and reminders, we are having service on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM and a church barbecue afterwards. Since Sunday is the 4th and so many want to participate in the Independence Day festivities, we want to encourage everyone to do just that!

Come Saturday morning, receive from God's holy presence, have fun with us at a massive church picnic then on Sunday go and be a light to our community. It'll be great!

As I said, I want to make sure everyone had a chance to see this and know exactly what was going on!

Multiplied blessings,

Pastor Jason Stasyszen

The weekend and beyond

Good morning Breakthrough family! "But the Lord's plans stand firm forever, His intentions can NEVER be shaken. What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people He has chosen as His inheritance." Ps 33:11-12 NLT
  • This Saturday morning - July 3 - 10:30am - Breakthrough Church worship service. Immediately following service is our church family barbeque. Come ready to worship Him and receive what God will speak to us this Independence Day weekend through our pastor. If you have not signed up yet, just come and be blessed! No church service planned for Sunday, July 4. Enjoy your family time!
  • Several churches have come together to sponsor a Community July 4th Celebration at Shepherd of the Valley Church at 4pm on July 4th. The meat is provided. If you'd like, you can bring non-mayo salads to go along with the burgers and hotdogs. Games and other activities are planned. This is a great event for the whole family! A worship service will begin at 6pm with several local pastors and singing groups participating. This occasion also marks the 25th anniversary of Shepherd of the Valley Church. Everyone is invited to attend this great time of fellowship with other brothers and sisters in our community.
