Weekly Announcements

I hope everyone is enjoying the rest of our sunshine and experiencing the life and power of God. We have more and more opportunity to draw deeper upon His Spirit and grace so be sure to take those moments and run with them!

Here are some announcements for this week.
  • Be a part of prayer time tomorrow night at 7 PM. It's always an awesome time in His presence!
  • Thanks to everyone who was able to help the Hohenthaners at their home on Sunday. I know it was a blessing. If you weren't able to help, but still want to get over there, there is plenty more to do! They need more help so just offer up a time and I know they would be blessed by your help.
  • Juneau is celebrating and inviting us all to come out and play. Across the city, there are activities, games, and fun. Check out the Juneau Day of Play Pass and get all the information. Should be a blast!
  • Thanks for everyone who has been bringing non-perishable food for our Love INC donations. There will be more immediate needs posted on the bulletin board this Sunday. Thank you for being faithful in loving Juneau.
  • We still have a need for Nursery volunteers and you can sign-up with the sheet on the bulletin board or contact Andrea.
  • For those interested, there is a free cholesterol screening (make sure you fast the morning of) through Bartlett Hospital Health Screening - 10-2pm on Saturday
  • And make sure you come expecting on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM! God is doing something powerful in our midst so bring someone along and we can celebrate God's greatness together.
Thank you and multiplied blessings!

News and Notices

Just putting some reminders and news out there for you!

Thursday Night at Breakthrough
Everyone should have received an email yesterday, but we're having a team meeting to further talk about our vision and the steps to accomplishing what God has given us to do. Your ideas are welcome. Your help is welcome. This is an exciting time to draw closer to God! This is all part of the Kingdom Initiative God has given us. I hope you'll be there. Dinner at 6 PM (potluck- bring something to share) then soon after we'll get to work so we can be done around 8 PM.

The North Douglas Causeway
If you are interested and agree, I wanted you to have the opportunity to hear about this. Here is the text from the Action Alert email I received.

"We are at a critical phase on the North Douglas Causeway, and we need your help!  To help us pass the next critical hurdle to advance this project, please do either or both of the following:

  1. Between now and Monday, call, fax, or email all Assembly Members and urge them to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on the October municipal ballot.
  2. Attend the CBJ Assembly meeting at City Hall on August 23th @ 7:00pm.  It is really important that we have a good turnout Monday night.

More information: At the upcoming CBJ Assembly meeting (City Hall, Monday August 23rd, 7pm), the motion to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on this October’s ballot will be discussed and voted upon.  Public testimony will be allowed.  We hear that there may be a motion made for an alternative approach to putting this project on the Ballot.  The alternative probably would be a bond for more agency studies – without a specific project identified, and no funding for actual construction.  We need to send a clear message to the Assembly members that this community wants the opportunity to vote on funding the entire project, not just more studies.

If you are contacting the Assembly members, the attached document provides some sample comments in support of the project.  Click on this email address link Borough_Assembly@ci.juneau.ak.us to send an email to all Assembly members.  Other contact info for Assembly members can be found at http://www.juneau.org/assembly/members.php."

Suicide Intervention and Coping with Suicide Loss
Hospice and Home Care of Juneau is sponsoring a workshop by Dr. Bob Baugher on September 8, 2010 from 9:00-11:30 am at Centennial Hall on Suicide Intervention and Coping with Suicide Loss.

Dr. Baugher has a Ph.D. in Psychology and teaches at Highline Community College in the Seattle area.  He is a lecturer on grief and loss and on suicide intervention throughout the United States and several other countries.  We are fortunate that Dr. Baugher is coming to Alaska on a cruise and has generously offered us some of his time while in Juneau.

This workshop is free of charge and open to the public.

No Sunday Service This Week

Just in case anyone missed the emails and reminders, we are having service on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM and a church barbecue afterwards. Since Sunday is the 4th and so many want to participate in the Independence Day festivities, we want to encourage everyone to do just that!

Come Saturday morning, receive from God's holy presence, have fun with us at a massive church picnic then on Sunday go and be a light to our community. It'll be great!

As I said, I want to make sure everyone had a chance to see this and know exactly what was going on!

Multiplied blessings,

Pastor Jason Stasyszen

Special Wednesday night bible study

Our regular scheduled Thursday night dinner and bible study is changed for the next two weeks to Wednesday. That means, come this Wednesday night, May 19th, 6pm to Breakthrough Church.

We will have a guest with us for these special times, Farley Lewis from Dayspring Worship Center in Springfield, Missouri. Farley is anointed in teaching, imparting, and releasing the body of Christ into the ministry of healing. He will be leaving on Thursday to minister and spend the weekend in Sitka. Farley will return to Juneau Sunday night and we plan to have a special service with him again that Wednesday as well. We will keep you posted as things develop.

These are strategic times in which we live and it's no accident that God has sent him to us at this time. Please plan on being there and bring those who you know need a healing touch from God.

As far dinner for this Wednesday, let's build the meal around baked chicken. Thank you for your prayers and come expecting God to move mightily and He will!

Prayer Retreat Details

I haven't heard from a lot of people, but I hope you're making plans to be a part of this weekend's retreat! Here is what you need to know:

  • Thursday night won't start until around 7:30 PM (we have a little school event conflict, but it will all work out!) and Friday night we'll have dinner around 6 PM with prayer/worship at 7 PM.
  • Anyone is welcome to stay the night either Thursday or Friday night. For that, you'll need some bedding or a sleeping bag, a pillow, and towel.  There are beds, different rooms--this is a great facility if you've never been!
  • For meals, we'll be bringing out some simple meals and if anyone participating would bring some drinks and snacks to put with it, that would be wonderful!
  • If you can be a part for any or all of this, please let me know so we can plan effectively. Email me with when you can be a part if I haven't heard from you already! Also let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer.
I really encourage you to be there. God is doing some great things and we have some wonderful opportunities in front of us. This is simply a few moments to get away, relax, draw near to God, and enjoy some fellowship too. I am anticipating a life-changing weekend so don't miss out.  Again, just let me know how you can be a part.

More grace and multiplied blessings,

Pastor Jason

Some Reminders for the Week

Here's a rundown of some things we'd love for you to be a part of:

  • Special night at Jason and Andrea's: dinner at 6 PM (bring stuff to go with tacos) then we'll be trying to set up the church. We're getting the chairs and sound set up as much as we can. It's all coming together and if you want to enjoy some fellowship and can help us put the final pieces in place, come on!
  • Church Retreat: next Thursday night and all day Friday we'll be out at the Shrine of St. Therese (Jubilee cabin) to meet, pray, worship, laugh, and yes, eat. :) If you can be there (either for the whole thing or part), let us know so we can plan accordingly. Need more info, email or give me (Jason) a call. I want as many as can be a part of this!
  • Please keep praying! We've made a lot of headway on the new building and it's so exciting, but we still need to see some great financial miracles. We get to stand and see God's provision together so keep declaring that we are doing the impossible.
There may be other announcements, but I can't think of them now! Blessings to you all,

Pastor Jason

In Case You Missed it!

  • On Wednesday night at 6 PM at Andrea's house (get directions) - you are invited to help out with wedding fun to  bless Sean and Yvonne! We're putting together wedding favors, tying bags of bird seed, and putting flower arrangements together to decorate the church.  Willing hands for any amount of time that you can give is appreciated!
  • Bible study- bring a dish you can share and come for dinner, fellowship, and a relationship-building video at 6 PM on Thursday (also at pastors' house).
  • We will need help putting the church together for service next week.  We'll need willing hands on Saturday around 3pm.  This week we'll be painting the outside (hopefully) and wiring for exit signs.  We also hope to possibly do one round of floor sanding.  If you can help, please contact Pastor Jason or just stop by!
  • Don't forget the Governor's Prayer Breakfast is this Saturday at 9 AM.  Breakthrough Church is excited to support this event so we reserved a table.  If you are able to come, get your tickets through the church and let Sherry know you're coming. You won't want to miss it.
Thanks and blessings in Jesus' name!

Breakthrough Happenings

Congratulations to Nate, Sarah, Aaron & Allison at the arrival of little Amelia on Tuesday, Aug 18th. Mom & baby are doing well and were released from the hospital on yesterday. A sign up schedule for meals for the family will be started soon. We thank God for this miracle of a new life and for a safe delivery.

Prayer & Worship tonite and every Thursday night at the church at 6:30pm

Small Groups are gearing up to begin soon. A schedule of groups and meeting times will be announced. Our first round of meetings was blessed and we’ve heard many testimonies of how lives were touched. These groups are designed as an outreach to our families, friends & acquaintances or maybe even the person standing in line with us at Freddy’s. Start praying now as to how you will get involved and who you can invite and bring with you! He’s the God of this city and there is so much to be done. Let’s get involved!

Ministry Need - Breakthrough Church is in need of some dedicated committed adults to help out in nursery. You would be responsible for one Sunday a month, usually the same Sunday each month so that it would be easier to remember your time to minister to the children. You would be asked to prepare a lesson, songs, games and snack for the children ages newborn to three years. Some Sundays we may have five or six children and other Sundays, only one but they all need ministry. After church you would be asked to vacuum and pick up the nursery so it would be clean and ready for the next Sunday. Nursery is a vital ministry as parents need to trust the workers to care for their child so they can relax and allow God to minister to them in the service. Currently, we only have five regulars to do nursery so the children grow to know you and trust you and want to join in the fun you plan for them on your Sunday. Children are already gifted and assigned by God to be our next leaders, pastors, teachers, nurses, mayors and the like. You get to touch their lives in the early forming stages. If interested in joining our team to minister to the Tiny Tots, please Email Jenny at grammyjenny[at]gmail.com or call and leave a message at 780-2558 so she can include you on the schedule for September. Thank you for considering this often overlooked ministry of the church.
Pre-service Prayer – every Sunday morning 10am – join us as we ask God’s blessings & anointed upon the service that chains be broken, breakthrough comes and lives are changed forever.

Carolyn wishes to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone for the cards, flowers, prayers and kind words in the loss of her Mother a few weeks ago.

Susan has requested effective immediately, that her home email address be used when sending her personal email at innkeeper[at]beachsidevilla.com. Susan can no longer receive personal emails to her work email. Please delete the lynden address from your address book.

Back to School Fair – Sponsored by Tlingit & Haida of the city of Juneau and the Central Council T & H Indian Tribes of Ak. Backpacks filled with basic school supplies will be distributed on a first come first served basis to all tribally enrolled school aged children K – 12 on this Saturday, August 22 noon to 2pm at 3235 Hospital Dr (T&H Bingo Hall by the hospital). Parents or guardians must have a completed application submitted to THICBC or your case worker by Friday, August 21. You must attend the fair in order to receive a backpack. Hotdogs & juice will be served. A contact number was not included in this announcement, but it was submitted by Trish.

God’s richest blessings to you! There’s more! See you soon.

Friday Fun Night- Get the Word out!

Good afternoon,

I hope you’re having a wonderful day—living the extraordinary!

I just wanted to remind you again to give out those tickets for Friday night. It’s going to be a great, fun time of free food, games, prizes, and a movie (Bedtime Stories, which if you haven’t seen is pretty funny). This is another opportunity to show our neighbors, friends, co-workers, or whoever you invite that God loves them and we as a church care for our community.

Think about it for a minute, then call, email, or visit some people who would be interested in coming. If you need more tickets, let me know and we’ll get them to you or you can pick them up. Also remember that they don’t need to get in, but the number on their ticket will be used for door prizes and is also a great way of reminding them of the specifics.

I’m going to bring some doughnuts or muffins to work (food always brings people out of the woodwork), then I’m going to make a little sign with the tickets sitting there for anyone who wants to take them. You could try something like that if you like!

The point is just to get them out there. We have an opportunity to show love and have some fun doing it. Soon you’ll be getting another email so you’ll know what’s needed and how you can help with this.

Thank you for being such a wonderful church family and thank you for praying for the event so that families are touched. Let me know if you have any questions or comments at all.

Multiplied blessings,

Jason (Jason@breakthroughalaska.com -321-5646)

Video Testimony Project

We need your help for a video testimony project! For those there last Sunday, this is a reminder for those who weren't there, this is your notice to be a part!

When: 1 PM, Saturday at the church
What: we'll be recording very short testimonies (1 to 2 minutes) to use in an upcoming service and online at our website (www.breakthroughalaska.com).
Why you should come: this will help to further reach out to our community as a practical and meaningful glimpse into who God is in your life.

  • Don't get stressed out about the testimony thing. Think of it like an interview. We'll ask you a question and you answer.
  • Do be thinking and reflecting on why you follow Jesus, why you think church is important, what He has done in your life.
  • Don't say this is for someone else who is bolder, more spiritual, smarter, etc. This is your church and we are everyday people making an extraordinary impact!

Thank you in advance for being a part as you share your heart and love Jesus. I really believe this will be an amazing, tremendous way to reach out with a message of hope and truth!

Questions or comments? Use the comment box on our news updates or send me an email.

Thanks again and multiplied blessings to you!

New Garage Sale Details

As you know, we have the garage sale on Saturday the 31st of January from 8 AM to 1 PM.

Jeannita needs help on Saturday, but will also need help setting up Wednesday through Friday (6-7 PM) when we'll be receiving what you bring. You can either do 30 minute slots , 1 hr slots or as much as you can. We'll also need some help in breaking down and getting whatever doesn't sell to donation centers.

Please let her know what time and days you can help (email her here or leave a message in the comments), then she'lll send out an email with a schedule.

If you can’t get your donations there until Saturday, please let us know.

Be praying that our $1000.00 will come in for the children’s ministry and other outreaches we're stepping into.

Lastly, get the word out! Invite friends, coworkers, or whoever and get involved in the helping! Thank you for being such a wonderful church family.

Church Garage Sale

Just throwing out a few details, but everyone should get an email from Jeannita about all this and how you can get involved, what is needed, etc.

First, I have a flyer that you can print and any help you can give by placing them around town would be much appreciated (click here for the flyer). I'll also have some on Sunday that you can take and put up so if you can't print one, no problem.

The garage sale is Saturday, 1/31 from 8 -1 PM. We'll be taking donations either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday night from 6-7 PM. If there's absolutely no way for you to get something to the church, leave us a comment here or talk to Jeannita.

Be praying that this goes extremely well so that we can really advance in our children's ministry (which is where the funds will go).

Thanks again and like I said, this is to put it on your radar again but you should be getting an email soon with more.
