Fall Festival at Breakthrough
As snow is creeping down Thunder Mountain, it reminds us that fall is over. However, for years we have enjoyed a children's "Fall Festival" held near Halloween time. I'd love to have this for the children again this year and now we have our own building too! We have a lots of the games in our attic at the church, so I'd just need some help coordinating things to make this happen. Here are my thoughts:
Where: OUR CHURCH!!! :) Breakthrough Church
When: October 29, Friday, from 6-8 pm
Who: Church families, friends, and the community- the games are good for toddlers till about 10ish years old
Why: As children receive many messages about this holiday, we want to make sure to share the love of God and His purpose for their lives.
What: Carnival type games, like our ring toss, dart balloons, cupcake walk, etc...
Help needed:
Booth and Volunteer coordinator- Can someone help get in the attic and see what booths we have and have a sign up sheets for families, neighbors, teens to help run that booth?
Food Coordinator- this is always a great time to sell little snack and maybe build up our children's church supply closet. Things like rice crispies, or popcorn balls or other fun little treats.
-Can someone be the point person for people to let know what they'd like to donate food -wise?
-Volunteers to run booths
-Donations of food items individually wrapped for sale
-Someone to make and/or hang flyers a few places
Please let me know if you can help with one of the coordination spots ASAP. I truly need help to make this possible.
Blessings to you,
Andrea Stasyszen

A quick reminder
News and Notices
Thursday Night at Breakthrough
Everyone should have received an email yesterday, but we're having a team meeting to further talk about our vision and the steps to accomplishing what God has given us to do. Your ideas are welcome. Your help is welcome. This is an exciting time to draw closer to God! This is all part of the Kingdom Initiative God has given us. I hope you'll be there. Dinner at 6 PM (potluck- bring something to share) then soon after we'll get to work so we can be done around 8 PM.
The North Douglas Causeway
If you are interested and agree, I wanted you to have the opportunity to hear about this. Here is the text from the Action Alert email I received.
"We are at a critical phase on the North Douglas Causeway, and we need your help! To help us pass the next critical hurdle to advance this project, please do either or both of the following:
- Between now and Monday, call, fax, or email all Assembly Members and urge them to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on the October municipal ballot.
- Attend the CBJ Assembly meeting at City Hall on August 23th @ 7:00pm. It is really important that we have a good turnout Monday night.
More information: At the upcoming CBJ Assembly meeting (City Hall, Monday August 23rd, 7pm), the motion to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on this October’s ballot will be discussed and voted upon. Public testimony will be allowed. We hear that there may be a motion made for an alternative approach to putting this project on the Ballot. The alternative probably would be a bond for more agency studies – without a specific project identified, and no funding for actual construction. We need to send a clear message to the Assembly members that this community wants the opportunity to vote on funding the entire project, not just more studies.
If you are contacting the Assembly members, the attached document provides some sample comments in support of the project. Click on this email address link Borough_Assembly@ci.juneau.ak.
Suicide Interventi
Hospice and Home Care of Juneau is sponsoring a workshop by Dr. Bob Baugher on September 8, 2010 from 9:00-11:30 am at Centennial Hall on Suicide Intervention and Coping with Suicide Loss.
Dr. Baugher has a Ph.D. in Psychology and teaches at Highline Community College in the Seattle area. He is a lecturer on grief and loss and on suicide intervention throughout the United States and several other countries. We are fortunate that Dr. Baugher is coming to Alaska on a cruise and has generously offered us some of his time while in Juneau.
This workshop is free of charge and open to the public.

Celebrating August special days
Thursday, August 5, 2010
A note from Andrew
It's so easy to have feelings of despair and desperation in times like now. Considering the incredible battle Shelly went through on July 13 and 14, it looked very bad. She was given a 30% chance of survival but on the fourteenth they doubled her odds of survival to 60%.
Now we are again facing another hospital stay and the unsure nature of infirmity. If it weren't for my faith and my friends and family, I would shrivel into a shell of a man. HOWEVER, I serve a Mighty God, the creator of all things! Our compassionate Lord went to the cross and defeated death and atoned for our sins as the perfect sacrifice.
Therefore, I don't feel disparate or desperate, I feel compelled to fall on my knees and worship the one true God, the giver of life. He alone knows more than any man can ever conjure. He alone knows how we are made in His likeness. God knows what is wrong with Shelly and can restore her.
For those believers (and non-believers) out there, you saw the awesome healing power of God when Shelly beat the odds last month, so I ask you to unite with me in spirit and lift her up again. May God richly bless you for your faithfulness.
If you read this and don't know Christ as your personal savior, find a quiet place and take a moment and ask Him into your heart. I am not promising you any smooth sailing or a trouble-free life. I can assure you though, you will find a peace never before experienced, especially in troubled times. I am so grateful for God's grace and mercy. He truly does help me in times such as this.
Your brother,
Andrew J Hohenthaner

Ladies at Hoonah ZipRide
Five Breakthrough ladies had a fantastically awesome day in Hoonah. Jeannita, Sherry, Carolyn, Tomica & Brenda went on the adventure of the Icy Strait Point ZipRide zipline. It's the longest & highest zipline in the world. It's 5400 feet long, goes at the speed of 60 mph and has a vertical drop of 1300 feet. The ride took 90 seconds from beginning to end. In spite of our obvious apprehensions, we took the leap of faith and He carried us safely to our destinations. We also were blessed to see a pod of whales right in front of our lunch restaurant and then later, a little family of jellyfish.
We'd like to share some of the fun with you. Photos of our fun day are posted at
http://www.zip-photos.com/. Once in, click on gallery, then Juneau Day June 26 2010, 10:30 departure. You will find us beginning at photo #23 - 45. Enjoy! We had a GREAT time and are ready for next year. Thank you for praying for us!

Thursday Night and Prayer Requests
Tomorrow night will be a work night at Breakthrough. Pastor Jason has invited us all to dinner and then we will spend some time moving the remainder of our belongings from the container. The more hands and backs we have, the better.
A big pot of beans is on for dinner. We already have rice and cornbread. So, please bring anything else you can think of to help complete the meal.
Prayer requests:
Shelly will be having surgery on Friday morning for the removal of kidney stones. Also, Jesse's future brother-in- law, John is having digestive system problems and has been in the hospital since Sunday. They're still not sure what is the cause. Please pray God's healing power, wisdom and peace in both of these situations. Thank you for praying.
See you Thursday night!

Special Wednesday night bible study
We will have a guest with us for these special times, Farley Lewis from Dayspring Worship Center in Springfield, Missouri. Farley is anointed in teaching, imparting, and releasing the body of Christ into the ministry of healing. He will be leaving on Thursday to minister and spend the weekend in Sitka. Farley will return to Juneau Sunday night and we plan to have a special service with him again that Wednesday as well. We will keep you posted as things develop.
These are strategic times in which we live and it's no accident that God has sent him to us at this time. Please plan on being there and bring those who you know need a healing touch from God.
As far dinner for this Wednesday, let's build the meal around baked chicken. Thank you for your prayers and come expecting God to move mightily and He will!

Some Reminders for the Week
- Special night at Jason and Andrea's: dinner at 6 PM (bring stuff to go with tacos) then we'll be trying to set up the church. We're getting the chairs and sound set up as much as we can. It's all coming together and if you want to enjoy some fellowship and can help us put the final pieces in place, come on!
- Church Retreat: next Thursday night and all day Friday we'll be out at the Shrine of St. Therese (Jubilee cabin) to meet, pray, worship, laugh, and yes, eat. :) If you can be there (either for the whole thing or part), let us know so we can plan accordingly. Need more info, email or give me (Jason) a call. I want as many as can be a part of this!
- Please keep praying! We've made a lot of headway on the new building and it's so exciting, but we still need to see some great financial miracles. We get to stand and see God's provision together so keep declaring that we are doing the impossible.
