Weekly Announcements

I hope everyone is enjoying the rest of our sunshine and experiencing the life and power of God. We have more and more opportunity to draw deeper upon His Spirit and grace so be sure to take those moments and run with them!

Here are some announcements for this week.
  • Be a part of prayer time tomorrow night at 7 PM. It's always an awesome time in His presence!
  • Thanks to everyone who was able to help the Hohenthaners at their home on Sunday. I know it was a blessing. If you weren't able to help, but still want to get over there, there is plenty more to do! They need more help so just offer up a time and I know they would be blessed by your help.
  • Juneau is celebrating and inviting us all to come out and play. Across the city, there are activities, games, and fun. Check out the Juneau Day of Play Pass and get all the information. Should be a blast!
  • Thanks for everyone who has been bringing non-perishable food for our Love INC donations. There will be more immediate needs posted on the bulletin board this Sunday. Thank you for being faithful in loving Juneau.
  • We still have a need for Nursery volunteers and you can sign-up with the sheet on the bulletin board or contact Andrea.
  • For those interested, there is a free cholesterol screening (make sure you fast the morning of) through Bartlett Hospital Health Screening - 10-2pm on Saturday
  • And make sure you come expecting on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM! God is doing something powerful in our midst so bring someone along and we can celebrate God's greatness together.
Thank you and multiplied blessings!

News and Notices

Just putting some reminders and news out there for you!

Thursday Night at Breakthrough
Everyone should have received an email yesterday, but we're having a team meeting to further talk about our vision and the steps to accomplishing what God has given us to do. Your ideas are welcome. Your help is welcome. This is an exciting time to draw closer to God! This is all part of the Kingdom Initiative God has given us. I hope you'll be there. Dinner at 6 PM (potluck- bring something to share) then soon after we'll get to work so we can be done around 8 PM.

The North Douglas Causeway
If you are interested and agree, I wanted you to have the opportunity to hear about this. Here is the text from the Action Alert email I received.

"We are at a critical phase on the North Douglas Causeway, and we need your help!  To help us pass the next critical hurdle to advance this project, please do either or both of the following:

  1. Between now and Monday, call, fax, or email all Assembly Members and urge them to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on the October municipal ballot.
  2. Attend the CBJ Assembly meeting at City Hall on August 23th @ 7:00pm.  It is really important that we have a good turnout Monday night.

More information: At the upcoming CBJ Assembly meeting (City Hall, Monday August 23rd, 7pm), the motion to put the North Douglas Causeway proposal on this October’s ballot will be discussed and voted upon.  Public testimony will be allowed.  We hear that there may be a motion made for an alternative approach to putting this project on the Ballot.  The alternative probably would be a bond for more agency studies – without a specific project identified, and no funding for actual construction.  We need to send a clear message to the Assembly members that this community wants the opportunity to vote on funding the entire project, not just more studies.

If you are contacting the Assembly members, the attached document provides some sample comments in support of the project.  Click on this email address link Borough_Assembly@ci.juneau.ak.us to send an email to all Assembly members.  Other contact info for Assembly members can be found at http://www.juneau.org/assembly/members.php."

Suicide Intervention and Coping with Suicide Loss
Hospice and Home Care of Juneau is sponsoring a workshop by Dr. Bob Baugher on September 8, 2010 from 9:00-11:30 am at Centennial Hall on Suicide Intervention and Coping with Suicide Loss.

Dr. Baugher has a Ph.D. in Psychology and teaches at Highline Community College in the Seattle area.  He is a lecturer on grief and loss and on suicide intervention throughout the United States and several other countries.  We are fortunate that Dr. Baugher is coming to Alaska on a cruise and has generously offered us some of his time while in Juneau.

This workshop is free of charge and open to the public.

In Case You Missed it!

  • On Wednesday night at 6 PM at Andrea's house (get directions) - you are invited to help out with wedding fun to  bless Sean and Yvonne! We're putting together wedding favors, tying bags of bird seed, and putting flower arrangements together to decorate the church.  Willing hands for any amount of time that you can give is appreciated!
  • Bible study- bring a dish you can share and come for dinner, fellowship, and a relationship-building video at 6 PM on Thursday (also at pastors' house).
  • We will need help putting the church together for service next week.  We'll need willing hands on Saturday around 3pm.  This week we'll be painting the outside (hopefully) and wiring for exit signs.  We also hope to possibly do one round of floor sanding.  If you can help, please contact Pastor Jason or just stop by!
  • Don't forget the Governor's Prayer Breakfast is this Saturday at 9 AM.  Breakthrough Church is excited to support this event so we reserved a table.  If you are able to come, get your tickets through the church and let Sherry know you're coming. You won't want to miss it.
Thanks and blessings in Jesus' name!

Breakthrough Happenings

Congratulations to Nate, Sarah, Aaron & Allison at the arrival of little Amelia on Tuesday, Aug 18th. Mom & baby are doing well and were released from the hospital on yesterday. A sign up schedule for meals for the family will be started soon. We thank God for this miracle of a new life and for a safe delivery.

Prayer & Worship tonite and every Thursday night at the church at 6:30pm

Small Groups are gearing up to begin soon. A schedule of groups and meeting times will be announced. Our first round of meetings was blessed and we’ve heard many testimonies of how lives were touched. These groups are designed as an outreach to our families, friends & acquaintances or maybe even the person standing in line with us at Freddy’s. Start praying now as to how you will get involved and who you can invite and bring with you! He’s the God of this city and there is so much to be done. Let’s get involved!

Ministry Need - Breakthrough Church is in need of some dedicated committed adults to help out in nursery. You would be responsible for one Sunday a month, usually the same Sunday each month so that it would be easier to remember your time to minister to the children. You would be asked to prepare a lesson, songs, games and snack for the children ages newborn to three years. Some Sundays we may have five or six children and other Sundays, only one but they all need ministry. After church you would be asked to vacuum and pick up the nursery so it would be clean and ready for the next Sunday. Nursery is a vital ministry as parents need to trust the workers to care for their child so they can relax and allow God to minister to them in the service. Currently, we only have five regulars to do nursery so the children grow to know you and trust you and want to join in the fun you plan for them on your Sunday. Children are already gifted and assigned by God to be our next leaders, pastors, teachers, nurses, mayors and the like. You get to touch their lives in the early forming stages. If interested in joining our team to minister to the Tiny Tots, please Email Jenny at grammyjenny[at]gmail.com or call and leave a message at 780-2558 so she can include you on the schedule for September. Thank you for considering this often overlooked ministry of the church.
Pre-service Prayer – every Sunday morning 10am – join us as we ask God’s blessings & anointed upon the service that chains be broken, breakthrough comes and lives are changed forever.

Carolyn wishes to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone for the cards, flowers, prayers and kind words in the loss of her Mother a few weeks ago.

Susan has requested effective immediately, that her home email address be used when sending her personal email at innkeeper[at]beachsidevilla.com. Susan can no longer receive personal emails to her work email. Please delete the lynden address from your address book.

Back to School Fair – Sponsored by Tlingit & Haida of the city of Juneau and the Central Council T & H Indian Tribes of Ak. Backpacks filled with basic school supplies will be distributed on a first come first served basis to all tribally enrolled school aged children K – 12 on this Saturday, August 22 noon to 2pm at 3235 Hospital Dr (T&H Bingo Hall by the hospital). Parents or guardians must have a completed application submitted to THICBC or your case worker by Friday, August 21. You must attend the fair in order to receive a backpack. Hotdogs & juice will be served. A contact number was not included in this announcement, but it was submitted by Trish.

God’s richest blessings to you! There’s more! See you soon.

A Movie You Should Know about -11/10/08

I forgot to add this last week, but there is a movie called, Fireproof, that has come to Juneau as of last Friday. I actually added a link to a story about it a couple of weeks ago, and it is truly remarkable.

The movie was made by the same people who did Facing the Giants and they see this as their ministry. So far it's being very effective and touching a lot of lives so I wanted to let you know this was here because it's certainly good to support art that stands up for marriage and faith. Besides all that, I hear it's just a great movie so you should enjoy it!

Here's a link to the movie website and you can find out more and even watch the trailer. If you want to check out local times, check the theater schedule here. Thanks to Tracy for making sure churches around town had all the information!

If you've seen the movie already, leave a note in the comments about what you thought.
